AdvertisementBerikut sekilas penjelasan tentang Hujan Darah di India, Lebih 500.000 meter kubik air hujan berwarna merah membasahi ke bumi. Pada awalnya para ilmuwan hanya mengira air hujan berwarna merah itu dikarenakan polusi oleh pasir gurun, tetapi para Ilmuwan menemukan sesuatu yang mengejutkan, unsur merah darah di dalam air hujan tersebut adalah kumpulan berjuta sel hidup, sel yang bukan berasal dari bumi tapinya!

Hujan Darah yang pertama jatuh di distrik Kottayam dan Idukki di wilayah selatan India. Tidak hanya hujan berwarna merah, sebelumnya tepat 10 hari pertama dilaporkan adanya turun hujan berwarna kuning, hijau lalu pernah hujan berwarna hitam. Setelah 10 hari berulah intensitas curah hujan aneh tersebut mereda hingga September.

Contoh air hujan darah tersebut langsung dibawa untuk diteliti oleh pemerintah India dan ilmuwan setempat. Salah satu ilmuwan independen India yang melakukan penelitian yang bernama Godfrey Louis dan Santosh Kumara dari Universitas Mahatma Gandhi. Mereka telah mengumpulkan lebih dari 120 laporan dari para penduduk India setempat dan mengumpulkan contoh air hujan darah dari wilayah sepanjang 100 km. Sungguh merupakan kejadian aneh bukan, seperti adanya gosip Video Malaikat yang juga sempat menghebohkan kita semua.
Penjelasan Tentang Hujan Darah India tersebut adalah sel hidup, maka para ilmuwan mengajukan teori, partikel merah itu adalah darah. Menurut mereka, kemungkinan batu meteor yang meledak di udara telah membantai sekelompok kelelawar di udara. Namun, teori Hujan Darah ditolak karena tidak adanya bukti-bukti yang mendukung, umpama sayap kelelawar yang jatuh ke bumi.

Dengan menghubungkan antara suara ledakan dan cahaya yang mendahului Hujan Darah di India tersebut, Louis mengemukakan teori bahwa sel-sel merah tersebut adalah makhluk ekstraterestrial (ET). Louis menyimpulkan, materi merah tersebut datang dari sebuah komet yang memasuki atmosfer bumi dan meledak di atas langit India.

Sebuah studi yang dilakukan mahasiswa doktoral dari Universitas Queen, Irlandia, bernama Patrick McCafferty, menemukan catatan sejarah yang menghubungkan hujan berwarna dengan ledakan meteor. McCafferty menganalisis 80 laporan mengenai hujan berwarna, 20 laporan air berubah menjadi darah dan 68 contoh fenomena mirip seperti Hujan Darah hitam, hujan susu, atau Hujan Darah maduyang turun dari langit. Sebanyak 36 persen dari contoh tersebut ternyata terhubung dengan aktivitas meteor atau komet.

Peristiwa-peristiwa Hujan Darah terjadi mulai dari Romawi kuno, Irlandia, dan Inggris abad pertengahan, hingga ke Kalifornia pada abad 19. Jadi, apakah hujan merah di Kerala berasaldari luar bumi? Sebagian ilmuwan yang skeptis serta merta menolak teori ini.

Namun, sebagian ilmuwan lain yang belum menemukan jawabannya segera melirik kembali ke sebuah teori usang yang diajukan ahli fisika Sir Fred Hoyle dan Dr Chandra Wickramasinghe. Teori Hujan Darah mereka disebut Panspermia, yang menyatakan bahwa kehidupan di bumi berasal dari luar angkasa.

Sampai kini belum ada jawaban pasti mengenai penyebab hujan merah ini. Jawaban yang ada masih sebatas teori. Dan The Sky is Bleeding sepertinya bakal terus menjadi sebuah misteri. Mungkin juga, kali ini di Simeulue Travel Jakarta Bandung yang warganya memiliki kewaspadaan yang amat tinggi terhadap bahaya smong alias tsunami.

Sabotase Listrik saat Warga Tadarus, Turis AS Diancam Pasal Penghinaan

AdvertisementREPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA--Turis asal Amerika Serikat (AS), Gregory Llyod Luke (50 tahun) yang sedang berlibur diusir warga sekitar. Pasalnya, Gregory mengganggu peribadatan masyarakat yang sedang melakukan tadarus di salah satu mushala desa.

Menurut Kepala Bidang Penerangan Umum Polri, Kombes Pol Marwoto Soeto, Gregory melakukan aksinya karena merasa terganggu dengan tadarus warga.

Pada Ahad (22/8), sekitar pukul 20.30 WIB, warga kampung tembeluk, Desa Kuta Kecamatan Pujut, Kabupaten Loteng, Nusa Tenggara Barat, yang melakukan tadarus dikejutkan oleh aksi Gregory yang melontarkan makian kasar dan memutuskan aliran listrik mushala. "Dia merasa tidak nyaman akhirnya marah-marah dulu. kemudian memutuskan aliran listrik (mushala)," ungkap Marwoto di Mabes Polri, Jakarta, Selasa (31/8).

Tidak terima dengan perlakuan Gregory, Warga kemudian membalas. Warga lantas meluapkan emosi dengan merusak rumah penginapan Gregory dan mengusirnya dari lokasi. "Setelah itu, Gregory diamankan di hotel oleh polisi," tambah Marwoto.

Polisi pun melakukan pemeriksaan terhadap turis asing tersebut. Namun sayangnya, belum ada penetapan tersangka terhadap yang bersangkutan. Marwoto mengungkapkan, Gregory sebenarnya bisa menjadi tersangka karena melakukan penghinaan.advertiser

Satans in Budleigh Salterton's Public Hall

Budleigh Salterton Public Hall. Is the sun really setting on the last of the demoscene parties to be held here?

OK, so my fears at http://budleighbrewsterunited.blogspot.com/2010/08/goth-invasion-in-budleigh.html of a Goth invasion of Budleigh were somewhat alarmist, but there's a real event coming up shortly which sounds even weirder.

After all, if you eavesdropped on an all-night gathering where the guests with names like Vampire, Spiny, Darkblade and Evil Paul were muttering about their SatanDisk in a darkened room only a few minutes from the High Street you might well be phoning the vicar to get an exorcist down there before you can say "Hell's teeth!"

Especially if you know that after their mysterious rituals, in the Public Hall of all places, 20 or 30 of them will be heading down to the beach to do what one of them rejoicing in the name of Cihatari describes as "reveling in the flickering light of a bonfire made from driftwood and random burny stuff." What on earth could they be burning, you might ask.

But don't worry, they've been coming here every September for the last five years and Budleigh's reputation for gentility remains as intact as it ever was, just as it has with our naturist beach tucked discreetly away 500 metres to the west of Steamer Steps.

And really, these people, rather than deserving to be described as Budleigh's September Satanists, are just a bunch of harmless nerds like me who get even more of a buzz than I do to be plugged into their computers and creating their own special virtual world.

These are the Sundowners. I know that makes them sound like creatures of the night who might be best friends of Dracula and his virgins, but the concept is a bit perplexing to an outsider. "Sundown is a relatively small, UK-orientated demoparty, aimed at fostering and expanding creative talents and programming skills in the demoscene," is one definition I've read.

The demoscene itself, in a comment from a useful video on the subject at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1113467316994916460 has been described as "an artistic and staunchly non-commercial computer subculture."

The first party at Budleigh Salterton was organised five years ago by Ruairi Fullam (known in the demoscene as "rc55") to see whether such an event was viable. After consulting members of the UK demoscene community, the hall was hired, and networking, audio systems and projection were arranged. The event was publicised mainly by word of mouth and demoscene websites and managed to attract around 45 visitors. It took place on 9-11 September 2005.

This year's is again a weekend event on Friday 3 September from 5.00 pm until 9.00 pm on the Sunday. And, so the website says at http://sundowndemoparty.org/ "we’re planning to make this year's event the best ever!" But somewhat sadly I read that it will be the sixth and final party.

For these Sundowners are clearly talented and creative types, many of whom are making a vital contribution to the UK economy, as well as to Budleigh Salterton's High Street during their weekend stay in the town. The video and computer games industry - for that is what this demoscene thing is all about - has been described as a rare example of Britain punching above its weight. In 2006 games generated £2 billion in retail sales in the UK, £370 million was invested in games creation and 21,000 people were employed in games development, publishing and retail.

The UK games market is still the largest in Europe, and although the industry has slipped from third to fourth in terms of revenue as the largest producer of games the British sector is still among the world's leaders, closely behind the US, Japan and Canada. Most multinational games companies choose to locate their European headquarters in the UK and we have by far the largest concentration of games development studios in Europe with clusters around, for example, Brighton, Dundee, Guildford, Leeds, Cambridge, Liverpool, Manchester, Coventry and Leamington Spa.

"I can understand why people might look at us as a load of freaks!" admits Ruairi. "I suppose we are but this is no different from those who indulge in fantasy football, role playing, dressing up or whatnot. Sometimes even I have to step outside when things get too geeky!"

He estimates that between 33% and 50% of the Sundowners are professional games developers, while many see it simply as a hobby. Some have a specialist interest. "One member's work background is in the area of visualisation for cancer tumours," says Ruairi referring me to http://www.pouet.net/topic.php?which=7008&page=1&x=27&y=9

"It's all very cutting edge and visually striking," he says of the on-screen activities on display in the Public Hall.

Relatively few Budleigh residents have been aware of the September Sundown parties which have been a highlight of the demoscene over the years, and yet the event has helped to put the town on the map in some unexpected quarters. "Despite it being a subculture, it galvanises friendships and helps create collaborations and teams that are responsible for some incredible games that translate into revenue measured in hundreds of millions of dollars," Ruairi told me.

"At Sundown 2006 one of our visitors was Mark Shuttleworth, the first South African in space and a philanthropist worth $60m, who was looking to find people to assist with his development of a free Windows alternative operating system."

"They are big fans and some employees there are demosceners too."

So why on earth did they choose Budleigh Salterton for their annual covens? Sorry, I meant to say "conventions." After all, the computer gaming industry is hardly creating playgrounds for pensioners, and I did read an online rather rude comment by a Sundowner called Cihatari about the local population here, "many of whom have had to be carbon-dated to establish their age."

The answer, as Ruairi told me, is that this is just a very pleasant place in which to organise an event like the Sundown party. He himself lives in Exeter and has a sister in Budleigh Salterton so he knows the area well. "We've had great support from the Town Council over our use of the Public Hall," he says, praising the "very patient" Jo Vanstone who as Town Clerk has been his principal point of contact here. The Public Hall itself is an ideal location. "Our capacity is 64 table places, first come, first served, and we can accommodate another 36 seated visitors, maybe more as we tweak the floorplans at time goes by."

But after five years of partying, 28-year-old Ruairi thinks it might be time for a change and the final Sundown party, feeling that he deserves at least a year off. On the other hand, he admits, he might carry on. Perhaps, after all, the annual visits to Budleigh are as addictive as the gaming.

Humility hours for Philippines

Philippines ever since has been swarmed by catastrophic and challenging incidents and the latest was  last August 23,2010. The most traumatic event that once again has tarnished the already vulnerable image that peeled Philippines in the international reputation.

Blogs, twitter and Facebook comments has been mushrooming in the internet with huge negativity. Filipinos were  saddened by the hostage crisis which claimed the innocent lives of Chinese nationals. I am a Filipino and I humbly apologized  for the incident.

Philippines is not different to the other countries facing sensitive crisis. However sensationalism of the issue  devour the country's reputation. India faced the same situation on the Hotel attack that claimed 50 lives including some foreigner and the rest of the country across the world experienced the so called isolated incident.

Philippines should show transparency in all the investigation and punish those who mishandled the crisis negotiation.Hongkong and the rest of the world deserve to know the truth.  Philippines has been the major exporter of manpower worldwide and with the recent event Overseas Filipino workers had been the forefront of such humiliation. Threats to the OFW in their host country might be evident however involved nation has called for sobriety. 

Hongkong tourist comprises 4% in the Philippines tourism yearly. Bilateral agreement on both countries were enormous and the OFW were among the huge number in  HongKong manpower industry. I hope such relations will not be affected in this isolated incident.

Ninoy Aquino as Philippine President humbly apologized to the HongKong citizen and promised a thorough and transparent investigation. Philippines still the best tourist destination in Asia and perhaps to the whole world. Our hospitality and warm culture has never been changed inspite of this event. I am a Filipino and humbly apologized to the family of the innocent victims and condole on the incident that claimed precious lives. Truly this is an eye opener to the Philippines government and to the officials involved in such  sensitive issues.

Philippines and the rest of the citizens submit our humility to the rest of the world especially Hongkong for a failure efforts. My sincere apology to the families of the innocent victims.

Metrotvnews.com, Karo: Ribuan warga Naman Teran, Karo, Sumatra Utara, sejak kemarin malam meninggalkan rumah mereka. Warga dari 15 desa yang bermukim di sekitar Gunung Sinabung itu menyelamatkan diri, setelah gunung mengeluarkan asap panas.
Warga yang mengungsi, antara lain, berasal dari Desa Sukanalu Teran, Naman Teran, Kinepen, Kuta Rakyat, dan Batu Karang. Mereka bahkan mengungsi hingga Kakabanjahe dan Berastagi.
Gunung Sinabung kembali aktif mengeluarkan debu dan lahar panas. Hingga Sabtu (28/8), warga masih bertahan di pengungsian. Sebagian warga telah meninggalkan lokasi pengungsian untuk kembali ke rumah masing-masing guna mengambil perbekalan.
Salah satu warga, Beru Sitepu, mengaku meninggalkan kampung hanya membawa bekal kain yang dipakai. Ia menyelamatkan diri dengan suami dan kelima cucunya. Metrotvnews.com, Jakarta: Gunung Sinabung yang terletak di Kabupaten Tanah Karo, Sumatera Utara meletus, Ahad (29/8) sekitar pukul 00.15 Waktu Indonesia Barat.
Kepala Desa Sukanalu, Kecamatan Naman, Paten Sitepu, mengatakan bahwa api mulai keluar dari puncak Gunung Sinabung sekitar pukul 00.15 WIB.
Keseluruhan warga yang berada di sekitar kaki Gunung Sinabung juga dilaporkan telah mengevakuasi diri ke arah kota Kabanjahe.
Selain anggota keluarga, masyarakat juga dilaporkan berupaya membawa sebagian barang milik mereka untuk diamankan.
Sebelumnya, masyarakat sekitar Gunung Sinabung tidak menduga gunung akan meletus karena mendapat informasi dari petugas Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG), bahwa gunung tersebut masih dalam kondisi aman. Namun tiba-tiba meletus, ujar Paten Sitepu.
Berdasarkan informasi tersebut, pihak Pemerintah Kabupaten (Pemkab) Tanah Karo mengimbau warga yang mengungsi untuk kembali ke rumah masing-masing.
Namun sebagian besar pengungsi tersebut tidak mengindahkan imbauan pemkab dan bertahan di lokasi evakuasi, hanya sebagian warga yang kembali ke kediaman mereka.
Ia juga menyebutkan belum adanya petugas kepolisian di lokasi untuk membantu evakuasi warga.

Metrotvnews.com, Karo: Gunung Sinabung yang terletak di Kecamatan Naman, Kabupaten Tanah Karo, Sumatera Utara yang meletus Ahad (29/8) sekitar pukul 00.08 Waktu Indonesia Barat, statusnya dinaikkan, kata kepala Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi.
"Sebelumnya, tidak ada aktivitas yang berarti dari Gunung Sinabung sehingga gunung tersebut tidak mendapat prioritas pemantauan sejak tahun 1600-an," ujar kepala Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi, Surono, Ahad (29/8) dini hari.
Menyikapi semburan api yang bisa terlihat hingga belasan kilometer jauhnya itu, pihaknya juga menyatakan status gunung tersebut menjadi "awas", dan memerintahkan seluruh warga yang bermukim di kaki gunung itu untuk melakukan evakuasi hingga enam kilometer jauhnya sejak pukul 00.08 WIB.
Mengatasi letusan di gunung api tersebut pihaknya juga sudah menurunkan tim peneliti ke lokasi sejak awal aktivitas gunung tersebut yang mengeluarkan asap putih.
"Dengan adanya aktivitas yang mendadak ini, status gunung api Sinabung dinaikkan dari B, yang tidak pernah dimonitor menjadi A, untuk dimonitor," ujarnya.
Sejumlah warga desa dari Kecamatan Simpang Empat dan Kecamatan Naman, Kabupaten Tanah Karo, sejak Jumat (27/8) telah dikejutkan oleh kabut asap bercampur partikel belerang berwarna putih yang menyembur dari puncak Gunung Sinabung.
