I've been watching with great interest, the development of a brand new golf course very close to my home in Palm Springs. Avalon is billed as a hip, cool place hearkening the mid-century modern feel of Palm Springs during it's heyday. The area that is being developed was previously just open sand, so I'm excited about having a high-end golf club so close to home. I've been watching the progress of the workmen, who toil in the intense heat of the desert. There are days when I can barely walk my dog outside for more than 15 minutes, so I have no idea how they work in 105-120 degree temperatures all day. On a recent Sunday I decided to sneak onto the construction site and check out what's been happening. I walked deep into the center of the development, with just my camera in hand. Foolishly I forgot to bring water, and while the walk out wasn't too bad, by the time I was finished taking photos and had turned back, I was already overheated and dehydrated. Fortunately I found a cactus and was able to cut it open for some moisture. (OK I made up that last part- I was hot as hell but I managed to walk home with no problems. Anyway, here are the photos I took of the new Avalon golf course that is being born before my eyes.

Above: I really can't tell what this will be yet, but our mountains are so beautiful in the distance.

So get ready all you golfers...sometime next year hopefully this will have filled in!
